Scholarships

On Saturday, May 11th the 2019 class of Herndon Game Changer Entrepreneurship Training Program received over $40,000 in scholarship awards toward achieving their entrepreneurial dreams. Scholarship recipients were sponsored through the two-year program by Atlanta Life Insurance Company, Atlanta’s oldest Black Legal Reserve Company. The Game Changer Program Mission is to strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit in our communities by providing programs that inspire young people to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities, and to plan for successful futures.

The Herndon Game Changers Program Scholarship

Herndon “Game Changers” are selected based on the following:
  1. Enrollment and standing as a 11th grade student in a metro-Atlanta high school.
  2. Successful completion of the essay portion of the application.
  3. Submission of parent/guardian and recommendation forms.
Game Changers enroll in the eight-month program, held one Saturday per month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Each Saturday program will include enrichment seminars that will focus on a specific aspect of entrepreneurism (e.g., marketing analysis, capital, product development, business planning, etc.), where business leaders and Game Changers have the opportunity for direct interaction. Game Changers work in groups of their peers to develop business plans unique to their own goals and objectives and use this plan to build a presentation for the programs culminating Business Expo. Before You Apply- Application Eligibility

To apply for The Herndon Game Changers Program Scholarship the following must apply to you: 11th grade student currently enrolled in a metro Atlanta high school Student is in good standing with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
We advise reading the information below before you start your application so you can be fully prepared. The application opened Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 10 a.m. and will close Thursday, October 31, 2019, at 5 p.m. Eastern.
Important Items to Gather
  • A high school transcript - There is no need to upload, email, mail, fax, or submit in any other fashion a copy of your transcript. While completing the application, you will be asked to type in your specific grades since your freshman year and their course levels. Having your transcript nearby will help you fill in this information.
  • Contact info - The names, email addresses, and phone numbers of your guidance counselor and principal.
  • A list - of school and non-school related clubs and organizations in which you have participated since your freshman year as well as any corresponding leadership positions.
  • A list - of honors and awards that you received when participating in school and non-school related clubs and organizations and the level of each award (local, state, regional, or national/international) since your freshman year.
  • A list of volunteer organizations with which you have served and the number of hours served with each, plus any awards and honors that you have received for your participation since freshman year.
  • A list of employment during school and during the summer with number of weeks and hours worked.

Learning Environment

Measurement & Assessment

The program will implement various research-based measurement and assessment tools inclusive of but not limited to the following: Pre Assessment (PRA), Learning Style Assessment (LSA), and Post Assessment (POA).

Our Outcomes

Outcomes of the program will include: increased problem-solving and decision-making abilities; improved interpersonal and communication skills; job readiness skills; and enhanced social psychological development.

Networking

Our Team

Our team is comprised of a dedicated group of professional entrepreneurs, marketers, trainers, and professionals with global expertise in business education and development. A regular array of volunteer guest speakers will provide students the opportunity to hear from and interact with real-world entrepreneurs and business leaders, an essential component to the Game Changer experience. Students will also be paired with local College Students to assist them in developing their business plans.

Community leaders, members, and business persons who support the Herndon Game Changers Program with a financial investment are doing their part to:
  • Further the impact of entrepreneurship among the next generation.
  • Co-create entrepreneurship opportunities as a viable career option.
